Attendance: Please call the Main Office at 585.267.1500 by 9 a.m. on each day your child is absent. A written excuse is no longer required upon return.
Medications: According to New York State law, any medications administered at school, even over-the-counter medications (Tylenol, Motrin), require a written medical order from the physician. Medications must be in the original container, new and unopened, and must be brought to school by an adult. Cough drops require written parental permission.
Medication orders for Epipen/Auvi Q's, inhalers, daily medications, and all other emergency medications must be renewed annually at the beginning of each school year by your child's physician.
Allergies: Please notify the nurses if your child has any health concerns/issues, particularly if there is a food, bee-sting, latex or other serious allergy.
Illness/Fever/Vomiting/Diarrhea: Students must stay home for 24 hours after they have recovered from illness. If students are sent home with a fever of 100.4 or greater, they may return to school when fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication.
Contagious Diseases: Please report to the nurses if your child has been diagnosed with strep throat or head lice. Families within the classroom will be notified by the health office, with the student's name remaining confidential. If your child has been diagnosed with strep throat, they need to be fever free and have taken antibiotics for at least 12 hours before returning to school.
Physicals and Immunizations: Physical exams by your child's physician are required for all students in Kindergarten, 1, 3, and 5 as well as all new students. All immunizations must be up-to-date within 14 days of starting school. NYS Immunization Requirements
Vision and Hearing Screening: New York State mandates near vision screening for all students in Kindergarten-5 grade and far vision for K, 1, 3, and 5. The nurses will assess all student's near vision and will assess far vision for those in K, 1, 3, and 5 if the screening was not completed at the annual physical exam by your child's doctor. You will be notified of the results.
Injuries: Please call the health office if your child will be coming to school with stitches, a cast, crutches, wheelchair, or other injury. A note from their physician describing the injury and school restrictions is required. If your child is unable to fully participate in Physical Education class, they will be unable to attend outside recess until they are cleared by the physician.
Food in School: Classroom teachers and room parents will provide guidelines for safe snacks in school during classroom parties and special events. Food should not be shared with other students due to allergies or religious, ethnic or parental preference. All food brought into school must be store bought with the ingredients label.
Please reach out to the nurses with any questions or concerns you have! Thank you for your partnership.
